When it comes to vocalists,
one of the most prevalent musical dilemmas is that most of the
time he or she do not own instrument charts. This does not mean
that a vocalist is less professional. However, one must admit
that it looks very impressive to see a vocalist join a rehearsal
with his or her own instrument charts.
Many vocalists do not have
the technical expertise in orchestrating music charts so he or
she must rely on a musician to write the charts. One reason a
vocalist should have his or her own charts is that it gives you
more flexibility to perform with multiple bands, not just in
your area but also to travel outside, meet other bands and easily
fit right in.
Whether it is a one page lead
sheet or full orchestrations for a bigger ensemble, having music
charts is an essential part of a vocalist's tool kit. Especially
if music is your full-time career, it is highly recommended that
vocalists have their own orchestrated charts. It is a worthwhile
investment; one that will most certainly help you succeed in
the competitive business of music.
